Buenos Aires, November 15 (NA) -- The wife of former Federal Planning Minister Julio De Vido, Alessandra Minnicelli, denounced a series of irregularities and mistreatment during her visit to the Central Penitentiary Hospital (HPC) in Ezeiza, where the official has been detained since the afternoon of Thursday, November 13, on corruption charges.
According to Minnicelli, De Vido did not have access to his belongings upon entry, remaining in a thermal shirt in high-temperature weather conditions, and has not yet received his bag, which is reportedly under review. In a statement obtained by the Argentine News Agency (NA), Minnicelli stated that the food provided is not suitable for a diet for people with diabetes and insulin dependence: "for breakfast, they gave him five breads, which is poison for him," she pointed out.
Along the same lines, she denounced that the detainee requested hot water to prepare mate cocido, but it was denied, as was access to a shower. In light of this situation, she reported that a judicial presentation was made and the intervening judge has already sent a memo to the Central Penitentiary Hospital.
"I would like to know who or why they are mistreating him like this," Minnicelli concluded.
Regarding the request for house arrest, she stated that, despite having a complete health report and certification, the court ordered a new medical examination and a socio-environmental report at his home, which have not yet been carried out.
Julio De Vido will turn 76 on the upcoming December 26, which means that the following day he will begin his first day at 77 years old, a relevant fact for age calculations in contexts of deprivation of liberty.
She also mentioned that De Vido cannot communicate with the outside world because there is only one phone with a card available, whose functioning was not properly explained to him, and to which access is only possible once until 8:00 PM.
Minnicelli assured that her husband also does not have access to his usual medication.
